Conversion of a semi detached house into three apartments

This project involved dividing an Edwardian house into three self contained flats. Two of the flats were to be 1 bedroom flats and one 2 bedroom flat, split over two floors.

The house was in poor condition however most of the original features were still intact. Both the ground and first floors had original cornices and original detailed door surrounds and skirting.

The loft had been converted into a room but was in poor condition and the floor had not been sufficiently strengthened and had started to sag.

The challenge was to split the house up into flats meeting all the current sound and fire regulations with loosing all the original features of the house.

We decided to use a floating floor system to provide a sound and fire break between the floors. This system allowed us to retain all the original cornicing.

Most of the door locations had to be moved to make the house work as flats this meant removing most of the skirting and door surrounds. We had a specialist joiner manufacture skirting and door surrounds to match the existing. This allowed us to retain much of the character of the house.

The building makes three good size flats each with a modern fitted kitchen and all the character of an Edwardian house.
